The mixture of white, green, black, and red on the dial is interesting. Red is used for the GMT hand, as well as the 24 hour scale. Although the 24 hour scale is split into red and white areas - for night and day times. A large RAID insignia logo is placed in all black at 6 o'clock on the watch. I wonder if any RAID members will be wearing this watch.
Inside the watch is a Swiss Ronda 5030.D quartz chronograph movement with the date. A solid movement that benefits from its Swiss origin, and enjoys pretty popular use in many watches. The watch dial is your typical Luminox fare that can take a bit of getting used to if it isn't something you are already familiar with. It can look quite crowded at first, but you later come to appreciate, or at least enjoy the dial. The outer sloped chapter ring has tritium gas tube hour markers and minute hash marks, with an addition ring of Arabic numerals closer in to the center of the dial. The date window is nicely framed with a green ring, so as not to simply feel thrown in. While there aren't that many of them on this chronograph model, the dial also (attempts) to have the time in 24 hour numerals as well. On the three-hand Colormark watches, you can spot the 24 hour style markers much more easily.

Price for these watches is one of the biggest selling points. You get a well-made Swiss watch for somewhere in the ,000 - ,300 range. This makes them a pretty good deal and a solid option when looking for a good daily watch or "nice" rugged timepiece that isn't cheap feeling. Especially if you want to feel ready to jump into a pond at any moment. Add it to the list of watches to want.
High resolution active matrix EPD screens are used in other devices such as ebook readers like the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader. Seiko has successfully integrated this type of screen into a wrist watch. Not only that, but the watch performs many numerous functions. Those combined with the e-ink screen make this the digital watch to proudly wear this decade. When Seiko first showed me the watch, they were coy on when it might be released. Hinting that it was an early work in progress. The truth is that the Seiko Active Matrix EPD watches will be available by the end of 2010. OK, so let's go over the main things you'll are going to love about this watch. The movement is the Seiko caliber S770 quartz movement, has an active matrix EPD screen, and a solar cell. That is right, the watch receives power via a solar cell (not just sun light) - a first in an e-ink watch as far as I know. Like Casio Pathfinder watches, you can see the thin solar cell outlining the e-ink screen. This also gives the watch a cool retro look. The movement is also radio controlled. Meaning it receives signals from a local atomic clock. I am not sure how many bands the watch receives (four I think), but you are covered if you live in the US, Japan, and most of Europe. There you go - always accurate, never needs a battery, and has a very clear and easy to read screen.
I enjoy the watch case finishing and the typical attention to detail that you see in most Oris watches. The back of the watch is engraved with the RAID logo, and the edition number of this limited edition piece. I am really amazed at just how varied Oris brand watches can be, but still be well executed in their own right. The Oris RAID Chronograph will be limited to 500 pieces. Not totally sure about the price right now, going to be maybe ,000 - ,000. I will try to update the price as I get a better figure. Look for this cool watch later this year.

Audemars Piguet's last sailing sponsorship was with the Alinghi, and since then has been eager to get back into the world of performance wind-powered boating. You could tell that AP as a whole loves the genre. In their offices and in the manufacture are posters and models of the Alinghi ship - those will likely be replaced with mini l'Hydroptere's soon enough.
The wind speed was brutal. It was almost unfair. I was out in what felt like a gale for literally seconds before my expensive European umbrella was trashed and I was soaked. The wind warped it like aluminum foil in front of my eyes like it was a sick marionette puppet performance. In the past I had trusted its apparent durability to the elements with much confidence. In one fell swoop the elements decided to test its limits with a result that would satisfy a giggling teenager.
